Options Youth Subsidy Program

Options Youth Program is an employability skill-training program for youth across Nova Scotia. Options Youth is devoted to equipping youth with the skills required to make a successful transition into the labour market. We aim to create valuable employees in Nova Scotia through supportive employment training and experiential learning. Over the last twenty years, the Saint Mary’s University Entrepreneurship Centre has worked with hundreds of young adults, helping them transition into the labour market and further education. It is for the Work Experience phase of the program that we are seeking the assistance of your organization. A placement with your company would be an excellent opportunity for one of our youth to gain this experience. The work term placement would run for 700 hours beginning as soon as possible. This year, you have the option to hire one of our trained participant or identify your own candidate that fit the criteria of the program to hire. As a subsidized placement, Saint Mary’s Entrepreneurship Centre will cover $9/hour for 700 hours totalling $6,300). Your contribution as a participating employer will be to place the participant on your payroll and cover any wage top ups above minimum wage. Each month you can invoice the SMU for our portion of the salary. Employers will have full authority to fire the participant if they for any reason they are not adhering to the rules and standards set forth by the organization ***These conditions may be adjusted to fit your or the participant's specific needs.
