Support for Entrepreneurs and Economic Development (SEED) — Entrepreneur Support
The Government of the Northwest Territories is working to diversify and strengthen the NWT economy by promoting and developing NWT business and investment. As an entrepreneur or small business owner/ operator in the NWT, you may be eligible for funding under the GNWT’s SEED policy to help you start your business and improve your own skills or business capacity. In communities, SEED funding can also be used to support projects or events that help to expand or grow the economy. -Up to $15,000 a year may be available to NWT businesses under the Capital Expansion Incentive to offset loan interest associated with new capital purchases for the expansion of your business -Up to $25,000 a year may be available in Sector Research Support to advance research or product development in an approved sector

Eligibility and Requirements
Company Requirements
- You're eligible for funding if you are:
- A business or an entrepreneur based in the Northwest Territories
- Meeting the equity requirements outlined in the application (Group 1 communities (Yellowknife, Hay River, Fort Smith, and Inuvik) – 30% Group 2 communities (all other communities within NWT) – 20%)
Ineligibility
- The following activities will not normally be eligible for funding:
- Infrastructure responsibilities of other levels of government
- Land assembly or development of residential lands
- Projects that will effectively benefit only one business
Eligible Activities
- Funding is available to help entrepreneurs and small businesses with:
- Startup Funding
- Capital Asset Acquisition
- Market and Product Development
- Operational Support
- Film Support as under the Film Industry Guidelines
Application Requirements
- The following documents are required alongside the application:
- Outline of the scope and intent of the project to include: budget, quotes, and related statements
- The names of any outside services providing assistance to the project.
- Any other relevant information related to the proposal. This may include what is requested by the regional panel for evaluation and recommendation purposes
