BC Film and Television Tax Credit - Scriptwriting Tax Credit
The film and television tax credit is for eligible corporations that produce eligible film or video productions in British Columbia (B.C.). The credits are for domestic productions with qualifying levels of Canadian content Value This credit is equal to 35% of eligible scriptwriting expenditures directly attributable to developing script material for a production.

Eligibility and Requirements
Corporations that produce eligible, domestic film or video productions in British Columbia (B.C.)
Project Eligibility
- Eligible scriptwriting expenditures includes salary, wages, and other remuneration and reimbursements paid to scriptwriters who are BC-based individuals. The cost of buying a published or finished literary work, screenplay, script or script material is not eligible. The expenses have to be incurred:
- After February 20, 2018
- No earlier than two years before the date principal photography starts
- Before the end of the final script stage The amounts have to be paid no later than 60 days after the end of the tax year in which principal photography began.
Application Requirements
You can claim the credit(s) by:
- Completing the British Columbia Film and Television Tax Credit form (T1196)
- Attaching the certificate you received for your production from Creative BC. This is either the:
- Eligibility certificate (if production is not yet complete), or
- Completion certificate (if production was completed in the tax year)
- Submitting the T1196 and certificate with your T2 Corporation Income Tax Return to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA)
