Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC)

The Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) is a federal tax credit available to businesses that hire individuals from certain target groups who have consistently faced significant barriers to employment. Businesses can receive a credit ranging from $1,200 to $9,600 for hiring qualified individuals. The Consolidated Appropriation Act, 2021 authorized the extension of the Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) until December 31, 2025. A WOTC credit equal to 40% of the first $6,000 in qualified first year wages, for a maximum credit of $2,400. Qualified individuals must complete at least 120 hours of work to qualify for the partial WOTC credit of $1,500, and over 400 hours for the full $2,400 credit.
