Eligibility and Requirements

Who is eligible for financial support?

First Nations and First Nation members can apply for support for modifications to make the home accessible in relation to the occupant’s disability. The following criteria must be met:

What home modifications are covered by this program?

Financial support is available for a wide range of home modifications related to a disability. For example, we can help with accessibility features such as:

Please note that therapeutic care, supportive care and portable aid equipment like walkers and wheelchairs aren’t eligible for funding.

Important: Have you made any of these accessibility modifications before getting your application approved in writing? If so, they won’t be eligible for funding under this program.

How much financial support is available?

We will provide up to $60,000 for the needed accessibility modifications. If the property is on-reserve in northern or remote areas, the maximum amount may be increased by 25%. This is a forgivable loan, meaning it doesn't have to be repaid if you meet all the terms and conditions are met.

What if the home needs major repairs?

If the home is substandard and requires major repairs, we can help. Learn about our RRAP Regular program that covers repairs related to structural, heating, plumbing, and electrical work to ensure the home meets minimum health and safety standards.
